Day 89

Route

  • Rochester to South Royalton

Metrics

  • Miles: 26

Note

  • When I stop for breakfast or lunch, I can’t wait to get back on the bike. It has become something of an addiction. A good one I hope.

Thought For The Day

  • If you lose patience, remember that obtaining patience is a lifelong endeavor. Take a step back, take a deep breath, then you will be able to move forward.

South Royalton is the home of Vermont Law and Graduate School. I stopped into the bookstore to browse, then went down the street for a coffee. As I was sitting outside the coffee shop, enjoying an Americano, a fellow walked up and was admiring my Davidson. It turns out he knows quite a bit about custom built bicycles. He called himself an aficionado, I would call him an expert. It was clear why he knows custom built bicycles, he owns several. No surprise since he was well over 6 feet tall. He took photos of the bike to show to his friends.

We talked bicycles and he was very interesting as well as helpful. He helped me figure out the best way to charge my phone off of the dynamo hub and Sinewave front light. It’s too bad. I didn’t meet him back in Washington!

Today was a short day, only 26 miles. I’m slowing down my pace so I don’t reach Bar Harbor before my ride home does! Up to this point I’ve been averaging 53.6 miles per day. That will drop slightly by the time I reach Bar Harbor. That will still be a respectable number.

South Royalton citizens that have given their lives in service to their country. It’s not uncommon for small towns to have a city park in the center of town. Typically they have a memorial to those that have served.
