Thought For The Day
- What is your purpose? Your purpose is to find your purpose. Let your Creator help you do that.
Rain this morning. Like a good Stoic, all I can do is put on the rain coat and pedal.
Day four on the ECT. Not sure where I will be tonight. It will depend on the weather, the terrain, and how many times I stop to talk with fellow cyclists…
I ended up going 87 miles today. I’m close to the point where I will turn north and head up the Champlain Valley Trail (CVT) to Ticonderoga. In four days I have covered 310 of the ECT’s total 335 miles. That’s a four day average of 77.5 miles per day, with the shortest day being 72 miles. I’m pretty happy with that. In terms of accomplishments, I’ll put that up there in the same category with a single day of 100 miles.
The only real interaction I had today was at Lock 15 on the modern Erie Canal. I pulled up to watch a pleasure boat going through the lock. I chatted with the person tending the bow as the the water was being drained from the lock. I regret not getting a photo. It was fun watching the boat “sink”. It looked like the difference in water levels at either end of the lock was about 15 feet.

I met this fine young man yesterday. We exchanged contact info. He is vlogging his ECT tour. He “interviewed” me but I was saddened to learn he could not promise to make me famous. To the contrary, I’m certain this photo will make him famous…

Amish country. The horse was beautiful.
