I can’t say enough nice things about the community of Monroeville, Indiana. So many people went out of their way to greet me and make me feel at home. My stay there was one of the best of my tour. The Hubie Ashcraft Band last night blew my mind. I’ve never heard country and country rock played like that before. Of course this is my first time through Indiana, still, I wasn’t alone in that opinion. Every member of the band was superb and I enjoyed the concert thoroughly. They played for four hours with no breaks. They were amazing.

My destination, campground just outside Defiance was closed to camping due to preparations for a local celebration this weekend. As a result I had to continue on. I ended up in Napoleon where there is no campground, so tonight I’m stealth camping. I think it’s going to be a good spot. I can’t tell you where it is otherwise it wouldn’t be stealth, would it?

I will say it’s just off the towpath of the Miami and Erie Canal…

I rode along the old towpath for about 7 miles today. Not to be confused with the Erie Canal in New York. This canal ran from Toledo, Ohio at the base of Lake Erie to Cincinnati, Ohio, 274 miles. The canal and locks connected Lake Erie to the Ohio River. Railroads put the canal and locks out of business in the late 19th century. The canal was officially abandoned in 1915. A great place to visit is the town of Lockington, Ohio. This is where a series of locks lifted the canal to its highest point. The remains can still be viewed today.
