Thought #11
- Happiness is temporary, joy is permanent. Build on those things that will bring you joy.
So far, I have traveled 2,046 miles. I originally calculated it would take 4,317 miles to complete the journey. That means the official midpoint of my tour would be the town of Rochester, Minnesota, East of Fairbault. I will be passing thru that town in just a few days.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m not currently on the ACA Route for two reasons. The first is to visit friends in Plymouth, just outside Minneapolis. The second is to visit a town about 60 miles south of Minneapolis that has special significance to me. That town is Fairbault Minnesota. After visiting Fairbault, I’ll head east for about 100 miles, cross the Mississippi River at Winona, then I’ll be back on the ACA Route.
Fairbault, Minnesota is my father’s hometown. His Mother raised him there, and the house that he was brought up in is still standing. I am excited to see the town and the home that he lived in while he was growing up. I’m planning to visit the Rice County Historical Society while I’m there to see if I can learn anything more about my Grandmother.
One of the controversies I plan to sort out is how to properly pronounce the name of my father’s hometown. As a kid growing up, my family, always pronounced it Fair bow. On several occasions I’ve been corrected and told the proper pronunciation is Fair balt. I believe the latter is a mispronunciation. I’m looking forward to solving this mystery.
Visiting Fairbault will be exciting… The focus today is rest and recovery. At my current rate of travel and rest, I will be in Bar Harbor, Maine on September 10th. I originally planed to arrive September 20th. That means my original estimate was pretty close, it also means I can take a little extra time here and there if I would like.
