I got my new tent this morning and I’m headed out of town! I got a bit of a scare when the clerk at the post office came back and said he couldn’t find it. I showed him the tracking number and asked him to look again and sure enough he found it, thank goodness.

I got to my destination just in time for a Midwest thunderstorm. I was able to hunker down in a picnic table shelter and wait for a lapse in the storm. The rain abated briefly, so I quickly assembled the new tent and just as I was finishing another storm front rolled in. The tent is performing beautifully. I’m going to have a very comfortable night. At the moment, I’m writing this post sitting in a lightweight chair inside the tent. Possibly two of the best purchases I’ve ever made. At least when there’s a thunderstorm to contend with.

I should be in Minnesota in about three days. If memory serves, they are known as “The Land of a Thousand Lakes.” Looking at my map, I can’t find any reason to argue with that. I’m also looking forward to the longest paved bicycle trail in the country. More on that when I get there…

I’m met another fellow heading west. We chatted on the side of the road. He left May 15th. The other fellow I met four days ago left on May 14th. I’m sure I’ll be seeing more westbound riders very soon.

I’m going to read for a bit and then call it a day.

I was running ahead of the storm all day so I stopped only once to take a photos. The sky was dark. It wasn’t great weather for taking photos.
