Day 8
Newport WA to Sandpoint ID, 30 miles.
Today was the best day of riding so far. The weather was perfect and the road surface was good for 28 of the 30 miles. I was relaxed and I started to feel comfortable on the bike again. It takes a few hundred miles to become accustomed to long distance days.
One of the joys of long distance bicycle travel is the opportunity to enter a state of mindfulness, much like that which results when meditating. While you are concentrating intently on the road in front of you, your mind can free associate. I’m sure it’s different for everyone. That is often where I find myself. Today while my mind was floating somewhere between the front tire and the road 10 yards in front of me, the following occurred to me…

Welcome to Idaho!

I know things and I can fix stuff.
A B-17 is a Brooks No. 17 Bicycle Saddle.
It is the most comfortable saddle for long distance touring. (Your mileage may vary.)
